About the Project
In the dark, in the heart of the earth is the figure of Ukako, idol imposed by the Spanish to the miners of Alto Peru. They are in the deep, working on the extraction of minerals.
Despite the offerings performed to Ukako a collapse occurs and all the miners lose their lifes.
Ukako is lifted up from the rubble by a miner, who takes it out of the mine and carried into the woods. Ukako is leaning on a tree that is slowly covering by stains.
Through this story, realistic and metaphorical at once is exercised the will of banish the old dogmas rooted, faith imposed and thus can generate a spiritual transformation.
The second story shows an ocean of consciousness in which the water is stirred, turbied, changing colors and shapes.
From a chaos of multiple shapes and directions, gradually changing to a new order of its internal elements.
So, at the end of the story we see emerging fire on water, here is a new order set that will enable the transformation.
The third story is a transformation in itself: A live background consists of turnips that mutate following its natural cycle thus showing the time taken to perform the animation from start to completion.

J Animation
J Animation es un grupo de artistas dedicado a la realización audiovisual que utiliza como técnica la animación cuadro a cuadro explorando materiales y dispositivos, retomando las técnicas antiguas de animación resignificándolas.
El grupo se fundó en el año 2010 y durante sus dos primeros años se dedicó a realizar cortometrajes empleando la tecnica de animacion sobre pizarron como “El ultimo café de la momia”(2010) y "Hoy Anguila"(2011) donde esta técnica se perfecciona y se incluyen nuevos elementos como las máscaras de color, el uso de herramientas de postproducción de imagen, así como también el uso narrativo del sonido concebido junto con el relato. Ya en el 2012 con "El monstruo, La construcción" se desarrolla el concepto multicapa, utilizando hasta tres capas simultaneas de animación así como también un desarrollo sonoro espacial, es decir, resultante de la superposición de sonidos grabados y diseñados especialmente para este proyecto, proponiendo un espacio sonoro tridimensional.
Actualmente J animation se encuentra realizando "Ukako", su cuarto cortometraje animado utilizando un dispositivo de multiples capas de vidrio diseñado para animar en simultaneo con la tecnica cuadro a cuadro con oleos.

1986.Directora de Sonido. Egresada de la ENERC (Escuela Nacional de Experimentación y Realización Cinematográfica). Estudió Diseño de
Imagen y Sonido en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Trabaja dentro de la industria cinematográfica como Sonidista realizando trabajos tanto de sonido directo como de postproducción para largometrajes, documentales y programas de tv. Se desempeña como guionista y encargada de la postproducción de imagen y sonido dentro de J Animation.
Julia Santesteban (santestebanjulia@gmail.com) Nació en Mar del Plata en 1986. Artista Plástica e Ilustradora. Estudió Ilustración en la
Escuela de Artes Visuales Martín Malharro y Licenciatura en Filosofía en la Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. Trabaja para el sector privado realizando ilustraciones y storyboards. Se desempeña como guionista y dibujante dentro de J Animation.
